On Thursday, Agency said that hundreds of migrants have been enclosed in chain link in the El Paso and Texas. The increasing number of migrants crossing the America-Mexico border are consequently increasing US Patrol facilities. Migrant enclosure case is getting serious day by day.
US border patrol agent Ramiro Cordero told by phone that the enclosure holds the migrants from illegally crossing the metropolitan El Paso border. The migrants wait at the Border Patrol station for processing.
The enclosure periods depend upon the number of illegal migrants. Cordero said, “It could be a couple of hours, it could be more than that, it could be overnight, I can’t tell you, it’s just too many people for me to tell you an exact time or time frame.”
Additionally, 570 people crossing the border per day is the highest rate till now, he said.
Officials said that the migrants can get accommodation, food, water and medical evaluation along with thermal blankets. Reportedly, a Reuters photographer has seen a child sleeping outside the enclosure in temperature of near about 8-degree Celsius.
On Thursday night, Taylor Levy said, “This is an inhumane and inexcusable way to treat people,” just after visiting enclosure. She is the legal coordinator for El Paso migrant shelter Annunciation House. She has also seen kids sleeping beneath the bridge on dirt and gravel.
On Wednesday, the US Customs and Border protection commissioner said that the agency will provide the migrants with a temporary house before a well-planned facility worth $192 million builds.
On Monday, 3500 enclosures and more than 1000 migrant captures at El Paso sector took place.
Director of El Paso’s Hope Border Institute, Dylan Corbett promotes migrant rights. He said that almost 700 people per day are coming to the El Paso migrant shelters from immigration authorities.
Corbett said, “It’s not sustainable right now, that’s why everyone is really nervous because this just can’t last.”
The above-mentioned stats of El Paso receiving migrant is even higher than the highest record of 2000 per week of last year.
