On late Thursday, South Korea woods went on fire burning about 525 Hectare land. South Korea Wildfire took place in eastern Gangwon province. It also burnt around 198 houses, some godowns and other some other buildings.
Due to the strong winds, the fire spread to the mountain region and cities of Sokcho & Gangneung. A person died, while more than 4000 people have been evacuated. On Friday, thousands of soldiers and firefighters were trying to extinguish the wildfire.
Sokcho fully caught fire, while 50% Gangneung area burned. Around 52 schools remained closed. Noticeably, the fire erupted due to the spark initiated from a transformer near Goseong, Gangwon.
According to The National Fire agency, around 872 fire trucks and 3,251 are trying to control the fire in woods.
The presidential office said, “President Moon Jae-in has ordered the use of all available resources to extinguish the forest fires.”
Meanwhile, the ministry of defence said, “Some 16,500 soldiers, 32 military helicopters and 26 military fire trucks have been deployed.” Not just that, the government is planning for the meals of 6,800 people.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety said, “Some 4 billion won in special subsidies will be issued for containing the fires and cleaning up debris, along with 250 million won in disaster relief funds for temporary accommodation and daily necessities for evacuees.”
Notably, following the huge wildfire, South Korea has declared the national emergency.
