Mayor of Canada’s capital Ottawa declared a state of emergency in the city. Water levels of river are raising prompting a further evacuation. Also, Quebec authorities are warning about hydroelectric dam breaking. Let’s discuss the current & upcoming situation of Ottawa Flood.
On Thursday, Gatineau registered 636 flood victims. The registration is open to all affected person expecting evacuation. Remarkably, 20 Navy personnel were helping firefighters with evacuations by water.
Western communities such as West Carleton, Dunrobin, Fitzroy Harbour and Constance Bay are most threatened. Thus, Canadian forces are expected to start helping these communities & they are embedded in their operation. They will be soon available to help Cumberland and Britannia.
On Friday, Ottawa set to open three emergency community support centre to help people. In these centres, people would be able to speak to representatives from the community and social services department and Ottawa Public Health. The Canadian Red Cross and the Salvation Army’s representatives could also help to triage residents’ needs, answer resource questions and follow up on resident inquiries or direct them to the appropriate service.
Not just that, city residents expecting help for an upcoming flood can call 211 or 1-877-761-9076. In this way, people will be able to be in touch with Team Rubicon Canada and Ottawa Volunteer Search and Rescue.
These organizations will help to prepare sandbags and cleaning.
Additionally, volunteers willing to help with flood preparations can report the Cumberland Heritage Village Museum or Ron Kolbus Centre between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Friday or the Constance and Buckham’s Bay Community Centre between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. Friday.

Ottawa Flood – Officials Statement
Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson announced emergency in account with water levels and significant rainfall forecast. He also asked for help from Canada Armed Forces. Mayor said, “We can no longer do it alone. We are now beyond our city’s capacity, and that is why we have called in the Armed Forces.”
City manager Steve Kanellakos suggested the Mayor declare a state of emergency as the city might not be able to handle upcoming circumstances.
Steve Kanellakos said, “The number of requests for help is increasing and the flooding threat is imminent.”
The general manager of emergency and protective services, Anthony Di Monte urged people to not to come for sightseeing at flood expecting or flood-affected areas. This will affect soldiers’ rescue operation and their own lives also.
Production and maintenance director with Hydro-Québec, Simon Racicot said the dam at Chute Bell was built to withstand a millennial flood.
He said, “We are confident that the structure is solid. But the protocols force us to warn people of the danger.” “We are entering into an unknown zone right now — completely unknown,” he added.
According to Quebec Public Security, the dam failure alert was to be maintained until 11:45 PM Thursday.
