While President’s officials said any face garment which hinders identification will be banned to ensure national security.

However, they did not specifically mention niqab and burka. But why? It’s simply because of not involving religious sentiments of Sri Lankan Muslims. Nevertheless, if we consider face veiling then the burqa and niqab also cover the face. So, it’s quite discriminating not mentioning burqa or niqab in the “face-covering garments”.
Even after facing such a terrific Islamist attack they are still doing this. Notably, this Islamist attack hit churches and hotel on Easter day. As a result, approximately 269 people killed and many injured in the Sri Lanka attack.
Particularly, dozens of suspects have been arrested. The nation remains in eight days high alert following the Islamist terrorist attack on Sri Lanka.
Talking about the Muslim population in Sri Lanka, out of 21 million just 10% are Muslims. Giving this fact, officials haven’t mentioned burqa in the face covering ban. They say that only a small number of women will cover the face with niqab or burqa.

Rules are rules for everyone but it seems Sri Lanka discriminates while implying laws. Remarkably, a Sri Lankan MP proposed a ban on woman wearing burqa saying that it should be outlawed on security grounds.
Hopefully, if the government is talking about face covering ban on national security grounds then it will shed facilitation to a particular community and make law the same for each and every one.
