Canada Philippines Garbage Dispute May End Soon

Canada Philippines Garbage Dispute May End Soon

In April, Philippines president Rodrigo Duterte threatened Canada to take back the garbage wrongly thrown in the Philippines otherwise he will declare war against Canada. Taking this into the account, Canada is now offering the Philippines to ship six dozen or 2500 tons of garbage to back in Canada via Vancouver port. Now, Canada Philippines garbage dispute may end soon. Let’s discuss Canada Philippines garbage dispute and its effect in detail.

Almost 6 years ago, Canada wrongly dumped its garbage at Manila port of the Philippines. Canada falsely labelled as electronic garbage and plastic for recycling. But, when opened it includes kitchen garbage, adult diapers and many such dirty things.

The war threats by Philippines President accelerated Canadian Officials to take back the garbage but after some negotiations.

Environment Minister Catherine McKenna said, “This is a file we’ve certainly been working hard on for a long time — obviously an irritant in our relationship with the Philippines, but also a problem.”

She said, “We’ve had a team that’s been working extremely hard, including from Environment and Climate Change Canada, to find a solution. I am not going to go into the details but there is a proposal on the table with the Philippines and we are hopeful we can come to a resolution.”

However, where the garbage will exactly go is still uncertain. Ministry isn’t even disclosing the cost of bringing garbage home.

Further, the Philippines hasn’t responded to Canada’s offer. After the acceptance of offer, Garbage will come back to Canada via Vancouver port.

Previously, the Philippines ordered its Bureau of Customs to send back the garbage to its home Canada before 15th May. Thus Canadian officials came up with an offer of taking back garbage after some negotiations.

Canada is taking back its own wrongly thrown garbage but still seeking for negotiations. It seems like Canada is doing this because of its status. It’s completely unacceptable to seek negotiations on erroneous doing instead of being apologetic and modifying the fault.

Many developed countries used to dump their bin in other countries. But, now the scenario is changing. Countries like Malaysia, Philippines and China are refusing to accept the garbage anymore. Earlier, countries used the garbage to recycle and reuse in industrial processes. All the garbage was used as valuable materials after recycling it properly.

At present, recyclable contamination is creating a blunder. It has become an extreme concern because the garbage needs to get checked and then dispose of it. Not everything is recyclable as it is extensively dirty or of very low quality. Thus, the garbage of so-called developed countries ends up disposing of in other countries. Accounting it as unethical, many countries are now denying accepting the rotten garbage.

After all this, Canada Philippines garbage dispute erupts and grows.

Earlier, Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte said, “I will declare war against them. I will advise Canada that your garbage is on the way. Prepare a grand reception. Eat it if you want to … your garbage is coming home.”

If the Philippines accepts Canadian offer of giving back garbage with some negotiations. Then might Canada Philippines garbage dispute end soon.
