Provincial police say two girls, missing in northern Ontario found safe

COCHRANE, Ont. — Provincial police in northeastern Ontario say two young girls who went missing Sunday afternoon have been found safe and sound.

OPP Sgt. Jeannine Grassie confirmed the girls, aged five and six, had been located and were fine.

Grassie said staff at the police communications centre “all cheered” upon hearing the good news, but she offered no further information about the incident.

Police had earlier reported that the girls had last been seen around noon on Sunday near the intersection of highways 11 and 655 in Cochrane, Ont.

Officers said they may have been accompanied by four pit bulls — two adults and two puppies.

Police, however, said they didn’t issue an Amber Alert because the situation did not meet the criteria.
