Toronto police say they’ve made dozens of arrests and laid hundreds of criminal charges in an ongoing investigation into gang-related activity across Ontario.
They say the year-long probe targeted more than100 people allegedly responsible for crimes such as murder, attempted murder, firearms offences, drug trafficking and human trafficking.
The force says the probe began with an investigation into an alleged Toronto gang known as the Eglinton West Crips, and expanded into a province-wide project.
Police say that officers carried out 141 search warrants over several months and have seized dozens of firearms, drugs and large quantities of cash.
Police say they expect the investigation, when it is complete, to result in 114 arrests and about 800 charges.
The investigation — dubbed Project Sunder — is being led by Toronto police and also involves forces in Waterloo, York Region, Peel Region, Durham Region, Thunder Bay, and the provincial police.
