Movie stars Kate Hudson and Glenn Powell interviewed each other Tuesday on Variety’s Actors on Actors, with Powell revealing some very unique advice he received from fellow Top Gun fellow Maverick star Tom Cruise.
Actors and apparent drinking buddies engaged in casual chats about their friendship and the most interesting aspects of their careers.
He then shared some words of wisdom Cruise once gave him – but it probably wasn’t what most people expected.
Top Gun: Maverick In preparation for his big role in The Legendary Actor, Powell’s advice was, “Get on with all the bullshit.”
Cruise’s words of encouragement were anything but ordinary. “For the ending to work, you have to be totally committed,” Cruise apparently told Powell. You’re the only one not watching.A movie doesn’t work if it includes some kind of apology.
“Sometimes you fall into the trap of wanting to be liked on camera,” Powell told Hudson. “And in a movie like [“Top Gun: Maverick”] that gets a lot of attention, I don’t want to be Draco Malfoy,” he suggested, suggesting the advice related to his acting career.
“I keep getting made fun of. I’m a super jerk, even for what I did with Ollie on ‘Scream Queens,'” Powell said. I feel like we’ve all learned by now that we both drank,” Hudson joked, leading the two of them to the next topic of conversation. According to Variety,
Cruise not only gave Powell career advice, but also paid for Powell’s flying lessons in the hope that the young actor would get his pilot’s license.
