FBI seeks help from public to find woman last in Florida

MIRAMAR, Fla. — The FBI is asking for the public’s help to locate a missing Georgia woman whose toddler was found wandering alone in a South Florida parking lot last month.

Federal agents are investigating every possibility as to why Leila Cavett, 21, of Atlanta, went missing, FBI Miami Special Agent in Charge George Piro said Thursday at a news conference.

“Leila’s separation from her son is completely out of character,” Piro said. “Her family and others in our community are very concerned about her safety and well-being.”

Cavett was last seen July 26, just hours before her 2-year-old son, Kamdyn, was found wandering alone in a shirt and diaper at a Miramar apartment complex. The mother and son had arrived in South Florida the day before she went missing. Investigators have determined that she spent time in several Broward County communities, including Hollywood, Miramar and Fort Lauderdale. Her vehicle was found unattended July 28 in Hollywood.

Piro said he believes there are members of the community with information about Cavett’s disappearance who haven’t yet come forward.

“Regardless of how insignificant you think your information might be, or whether you think we already are aware of it, I urge you to come forward, even anonymously, and allow the FBI to make that determination,” Piro said.

Anyone with information about Cavett should call 1-800-CALL-FBI or go to fbi.gov/tips.
