OPP Release 2019 Report On Opioids

The Ontario Provincial Police is releasing its report on the ongoing opioid crisis in the province.

The 2019 Opioids and Overdoses: Impacts and Strategies report highlights stats, trends and impacts pertaining to opioids in OPP patrolled communities.

OPP have identified a 34 per cent increase in overdose-related deaths last year as compared to 2018. Since September 2017, officers have saved 177 lives by administering naloxone.

Perhaps the most striking stat is the more than 100 charges laid in 12 overdose-related death investigations in 2019 – which represents a 500 per cent increase over the previous year.
