Trudeau Visit UK For D Day Anniversary

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is in the UK with UK PM Theresa May, US President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron in the occasion of 75th D Day Anniversary. All will attend the two-day commemorations of the anniversary.

In August 1942, More than 900 Canadians died and 2000 captured at Dieppe. This loss motivated D Day planners for the real invasion of France.

On 6th June 1944, Many British, Canadian and American soldiers boarded off from England to start the assault on Nazi-occupied France.

This assault on the beaches of Normandy is the largest seaborne invasion in history. It proved a turning point in WWII. It also started the end of Nazi rule on Europe.

The war resulted in more deaths and injured people left behind. About 359 Canadian died and 715 captured on the D Day. The number increased to 5,000 as the battle went on.

Many veterans who participated in D Day are now in their 90s. However, they still remember each and everything right from boarding into the ships and attacks on the Normandy beach.

During the D Day anniversary, The Queen, Macron, Trudeau, May, Trump and others will perform different ceremonies. They will also remember the bravery and sacrifice of the fighters of D Day as an elaborate ceremony. All the ceremonies of this anniversary will take place in the British city of Portsmouth.

The Queen, UK PM May, French President Macron, US President Trump will also deliver remarks.

Significantly, Canada PM Trudeau will recount the precious and hard learnt lesson two years before D Day. To recall, that time, British and Canadian army launched the raid on Dieppe.

The embarking veterans of D Day in Normandy will attend this remark ceremony.

On Thursday, Trudeau and other leaders will surreal D Day anniversary with lot ceremonies in France. A larger group of veterans is going to attend this ceremony.

Recently, veteran Joseph Edwardson, 95 described his experience of D Day. He said, “We were going across the channel and we didn’t sleep all night long for the most part, and I got up and decided to go take a look.”

He further added, “I went up the stairs and all I could see was ships. Ships, ships, ships all the way around.”
