Gucci is facing unnecessary backlash because of their new clothing. Gucci introduced readymade Gucci turban as a new headdress in their lineup. Instead of accepting it as a normal turban a particular community made it controversial and turned the scene upside down.
Gucci introduced Indy Full Turban and made it available on Nordstrom for $800 only. Many Sikhs got triggered by this and behaved as if they owe turban alone. Some even criticized the brand for using ‘brown models’. Sikh male & females took to Twitter to criticize the company for selling a Turban.
On the other hand, many other intellectual Sikhs appreciated the new step of the brand for providing special clothing for Sikhs. If they want particularly brown models then isn’t it racist? Because racism is not only degrading black or brown people. But, racism is discriminating people over their complexion whether it is black, brown, white or whatsoever.
According to Sikhs, the turban is an article of faith that represents honour, self-respect, courage, spirituality and piety. However, if they have a copyright on turban then why do call it turban even, just call it dastar only.
To recall, Gucci was also criticized for being racist previously. That time, Gucci did come forward and apologized. Notably, this time Gucci not responded to the backlash yet not even at PEOPLE’s request.
I guess people do have a problem of taking things negatively only instead of being an opportunist and taking it positively.
You can go through many such tweets on Twitter as of following.
Wow. @Gucci and @Nordstrom are selling turbans as fashion items.
We’re attacked and killed for how we look, and now corporations get to profit off that same look?
Feels wrong to me. Your thoughts? https://t.co/Em9UELbkTB

Dear @gucci, the Sikh Turban is not a hot new accessory for white models but an article of faith for practising Sikhs. Your models have used Turbans as ‘hats’ whereas practising Sikhs tie them neatly fold-by-fold. Using fake Sikhs/Turbans is worse than selling fake Gucci products pic.twitter.com/sOaKgNmgwR

This is beyond aggravating. Did someone at @gucci even bother to figure out what a dastaar (turban) means to Sikhs? Did it cross your minds to consider the history behind our identity? My people are discriminated against, even killed, for wearing a turban. pic.twitter.com/G62edSmjhf

Gladly, many other Sikhs also came forward and being an intellectual individual they did take things positively. Many such sweet souls commented on the tweets of triggered people and shower their positive kind words. But, pessimistic can’t understand the good sides.
Actually, not only a particular community or a group of persons is behaving like this. There are many people who got trigger by certain things really quick. This kind of people should understand how it actually is to be a victim instead of just pretending it.
While many countries and tech giants are against extremism and try to stop the online hate. Then there are some people who are being extremist.
After all this, Nordstrom stopped the sale of new headdress by Gucci.
Hopefully, Gucci soon apologizes for making and selling a headdress i.e. turban. Henceforth, may people can calm down after the apology of the Gucci.
