Salmonella outbreak in Canada has affected 63 people in six Canada provinces and 23 people in British Columbia. Sadly, two people died but the cause of death is ambiguous. Agency is not sure whether it’s due to salmonella or not. Let’s talk about the salmonella outbreak Canada –
People affected with the bacteria lies between age of 1 and 87 year. However, in most of the cases infected person is female. It means females are more prone to the bacteria.
Salmonella causes intestinal illness with the symptoms such as chill, vomit, fever, nausea, diarrhea and abdominal cramps.
Public Health agency Canada, Health Canada and Canada Food Inspection Agency are investigating the source of bacterial infection, food products causing infection and so on.
The infection can spread by eating uncooked food, contaminated food or raw food such as egg, fish and meat etc.
It’s third time that Canada Food Inspection Agency has recalled chicken nuggets to investigate the salmonella contamination.
Moreover, people usually recover within 1-7 days but in cases they end up landing in hospital. Even without showing symptoms infection can spread through one person to another.
Hygiene Tips:
Follwing are precautions to avoid the infection-
- First of all, if you have infection then don’t cook food for others
- Try to avoid cross contamination by washing & sterilizing the utensils, chopping board and your hands.
- Don’t eat uncooked or raw food such as meat, egg products, fish, poultry and shell fish etc.
- Don’t use same utensils, knives and chopping board over & over again without washing properly.
- Ditch the sponge and use new dishcloth daily.
- Use paper towel for your kitchen shelf.
- Don’t microwave the food as it will lead to uneven heated food.
- Wash your hands before preparing food each time.
- Cook the frozen food after it reaches room temperature.
- Take care of your hygiene

- Manitoba :- 10
- Alberta :- 10
- Ontario :- 10
- Saskatchewan :- 8
- Quebec :- 2
