Celebrated World War II veteran and Canada’s long-serving soldier, Honorary colonel David Lloyd Hart died at age 101. Hart died on 27th March, Wednesday in Montreal as announced by the Canadian Armed Forces.
The funeral ceremonies of 1942 Dieppe raid’s hero will take place on Sunday afternoon in Montreal. Notably, he left behind his 75-year-old wife and two children.
Col. Hart was born in Montreal in June 1917 was first called to active duty in 1939. He served the country in many ways such as senator, young communications operator and much more. Hart aided the Canadian Army for more than 80 years.
In 2017, he told the Canadian Press that he still remember each and every detail of Dieppe raid and WWII. Total 916 out of 5000 Canadian soldiers died in the raid on occupied France died.
After leaving active duty he served the country on various honorary positions. 100 year aged Hart went to the same beach in Dieppe where he fought the war.
The Canadian Army described Hart as “friend and mentor to many” and applauded him for “extraordinary life of service.”
Retired military officer Stephane Pierre was in the same regiment as of David Lloyd Hart. He said, “Col. Hart was a person who always had time for you, from the lowest private all the way to the commanding officer. When he spoke, people listened.”
Even in the late years, Hart used to meet newly recruited young members of 34th Signal Regiment in Westmount, Quebec.
