On May Day, group of unions, students and other community organizations to mark international workers day in Park Extension. Montreal police along with Riot squad and the Surete du Quebec were in force to control protests. These types of rallies are carried on the occasion of May Day all around the world.
In many countries, every year on May Day people gather stage protests.
The coalition was calling for the better Quebec to live in. Spokesman Marc-Edouard Joubert said, “The industry needs to change its habits, but it will not happen if the workers are not involved, so we need to involve the workers.”
Riot Police lined up at both intersections and closed the streets off to traffic. You can see the fire burning on Ste-Catherine Street. Firefighters tackled the fire quickly.
Emmanuel Anglade, Montreal police spokesperson said, “We’ve observed illegal activities.” Further, he said. “We are in the process of asking people to respect the law and telling people to disperse.”

Furthermore, Wednesday evening, other groups held anti-capitalist in downtown Montreal. One was at Cabot Square and the second one at Philips Square. At 7 PM protesters, the group marched along Atwater. Also, they threw smoke bombs and firecrackers en route.
At 7:45 PM, police asked people to disperse as they were going to conduct the targeted intervention. Also, they warned people to avoid Atwater areas.
In addition, Montreal police also tweeted about it on Twitter.

Meanwhile, By 8:30 PM Police reopened St Catherine Street for traffic. Afterwards, police tweeted and informed by arrestations around 10 PM.
