Auto Shanghai 2019 is full of many new SUVs for SUV lovers. Recently, Volkswagen introduced its I.D. Roomzz and also SMV. Volkswagen SMV is even larger than the Atlas SUV. However, Atlas is known as Teramont in China.
This upcoming Volkswagen SMV is 5.1-metres longer than the Atlas. Not just that, it also the largest vehicle built on the MQB platform yet. The model showcased is only a concept model. But, soon VW will make its production model with FAW. Notably, the production model will be ready in just two years.
The interested ones can hope for the 2.0-litre TSI engine or a larger 2.5-litre turbocharged VR6 engine. TSI engine can be available in entry-level whereas VR6 will make its way to high-end variants. But, you won’t get 3.6-litre VR6 engine as of Atlas which is naturally aspirated.
Expectedly, the upcoming car is getting engineered with 4Motuon all-wheel drive & 7-speed DSG. These two will remain standard across all the variants.
VW SMV isn’t ready with the seven-seat interior but glancing at the size it can have more seats. But it will be seven-seater with greatly spacious rows.
Under the hood, the engine will be channelized to deliver 295hp power & 499nm torque in the form of 6-cylinder.
Its tall roofline will offer generous headroom and its exterior looks quite a production ready. Despite the size, SMV doesn’t seem bulky at all.
Unfortunately, Volkswagen SMV will build in China and that too for China only. No hopes for any other country.
