Mobile Klinik to speed up expansion of smartphone repair chain as unit of Telus

TORONTO — The Mobile Klinik chain of smartphone repair and resale shops plans to speed up its expansion with the help of its new owner, Telus Corp., with a goal of becoming the biggest name in the business.

Mobile Klinik currently has 79 corporate and two franchised stores and plans to add two locations in Nova Scotia and P.E.I., giving it a presence in every province.

Chief executive Tim McGuire says Mobile Klinik will be able to hit its target of having 200 or more stores at least a year sooner with Telus than as a stand-alone company.

Telus acquired the privately owned repair chain this month for an undisclosed amount but Mobile Klinik expects to operate as an independent division serving customers of all carriers.

Mobile Klinik is one of several outside repair chains that Telus has recommended to their customers in the past but some have either closed or were acquired earlier this year.

The president of Telus Mobility Solutions, Jim Senko, says the acquisition of Mobile Klinik makes sense because it will allow Telus and Koodo locations to concentrate on sales.
