ELGIN COUNTY, Ont. — Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating the death of a 55-year-old man in Elgin County.
The Special Investigations Unit says it’s looking into an incident that occurred Tuesday in which a man was found dead in his home.
The SIU says Ontario Provincial Police attended the home on Friday, Aug. 28, to check on the man’s well-being, and he was later transported to hospital.
Police returned to the home on Monday at the request of the family but left the property when no one answered the door.
On Tuesday, the SIU says police returned to the home once more when the man failed to show up for work.
When no one answered the door again, officers forced their way inside, where they found the man dead.
Three investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to the case and a post-mortem was scheduled in London, Ont., on Wednesday, the SIU said in a statement.
