Ottawa police say a man has been charged with what they describe as a hate-motivated assault after he allegedly shouted homophobic slurs and threw objects at people on a patio last week.
They say the alleged incident took place on Sept. 2 while patrons were sitting on the patio outside a local business.
The police force says a 66-year-old man of Ottawa allegedly approached the business owner and customers on a patio at approximately 12:30 p.m., yelling “profanities and homophobic slurs.”
They allege he threw objects at people, some of which damaged the property and struck the business owner.
No one appears to have been injured in the incident.
The man is facing charges of assault and mischief under $5,000.
