UK Parliament declared “an environment and climate emergency”. The UK is the first country in the world to declare this. The Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn called out for the motion. Let’s discuss the need for UK climate emergency and its after-effects.
Notably, Greta Thunberg, a 16-year-old Swedish student addressed UK lawmakers to demand more climate action. Climate action group Extinction Rebellion blocked major landmarks in London by protesting.

After the announcement of motion, Thunberg said, “It is a great first step because it sends a clear signal that we are in a crisis and that the ongoing climate and ecological crises must be our first priority.”
Further, she said, “We cannot solve an emergency without treating it like an emergency.”

Both the Scottish and Welsh government declared the UK climate emergency.
The clear definition of declaring climate emergency is uncertain yet. But, many cities have already declared their own climate emergency such as Bristol, London etc.
Moreover, Extinction Rebellion said, “This is the first step in the government telling the truth about the climate and ecological emergency.” He also said, “Pressure on politicians will now increase as nothing but decisive action will suffice.”
Tomorrow the committee on Climate Change will deliver its last report. The committee advises the UK government on its climate targets.
Additionally, the Labour Party also asked the government to set a target of reaching a net zero emissions before 2050.
