Industry sources said that the government will now provide subsidy of 291 rupees 48 paise instead of 153 rupees 86 paise for domestic consumers of 12 cylinders in the 14.2 kg year. The subsidy of the beneficiaries of the Prime Minister’s Ujjwala scheme has been increased from Rs 174 to 86 paise to Rs 312 to 48 paise.
The 14.2-kg cylinder will cost domestic consumers Rs 567 for 2 paise and Rs 546 for 2 liters, respectively, when subsidy comes into the bank account. The government has given 8 crore free LPG connections in the Ujjwala scheme. Usually, the rates for the cylinders are revised on the first of every month, each time it takes about two weeks for the rate to be revised as the government had to approve such a huge subsidy. Some sources say that the announcement of raising the rate was suspended due to the February 8 Delhi assembly elections.
