Cyclone Fani To Make Landfall In Orissa - India Evacuated Million People

Cyclone Fani slammed the Indian eastern coastline. More than a million citizens evacuated living on the east coast. The severe cyclone is due to make drastic landfall.

The storm has been churning Bay of Bengal. Now, it is about 150km northeast of Hindu temple town of Puri, Orissa.

According to India Meteorological Department, On Friday evening, Cyclone Fani will likely make landfall with 170-180kph winds. The wind gusts will be as high as 200kph.

Chief Minister’s office also tweeted on Twitter about the evacuations.

The cyclonic storm tends to hit 15 districts Orissa. Thus, the government closed schools and colleges. It also deployed many disaster management personnel. In addition, the Orissa government also ordered doctor and other health officials to not to go on leave till 15th May.

Bhubaneswar airport has been shut down. Also, Kolkata airport is also closed by the West Bengal government.

Meteorologist predicted weather pattern with the help of technological advancements. In this way, it helped authorities to be prepared in advance.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked his officials to stay in touch with the states at risk of cyclone Fani.

This cyclone season can last in India from April to December. These severe storms will batter coastal cities. Consequently, it will kill many people and damaging property and crops in both India and neighbour Bangladesh.
