Sabotage Attack On Two Saudi Oil Tanks

On Sunday, two Saudi Oil tankers targeted of sabotage attack off the coast of UAE. The incident took place near Fujairah port. It caused significant damage to the vessels. However, there were no deaths or injuries.

According to the UAE, four other ships of various nationalists also had been hit. In addition, the Iranian foreign ministry said the incidents were worrisome and dreadful. It also called for a thorough investigation.

Recently, the US deployed additional warships to counter clear indications of threat from Iran to its forces and maritime traffic in the region. But, Iran denied the allegation of the US by calling it nonsense.

Saudi Arabia’ energy minister, Khalid al-Falih said, “Two Saudi oil tankers were subjected to a sabotage attack in the exclusive economic zone of the United Arab Emirates, off the coast of the Emirate of Fujairah, while on their way to cross into the Arabian Gulf.”

Further, he said, “One of the two vessels was on its way to be loaded with Saudi crude oil from the port of Ras Tanura, to be delivered to Saudi Aramco’s customers in the United States.”

The government of the emirates of Fujairah denied the media reports of explosions at the port. Noticeably, US maritime authorities urged caution while travelling in the affected area.

Mr Falih added, “The international community has a joint responsibility to protect the safety of maritime navigation and the security of oil tankers.”
