On Thursday, Facebook gave a sigh of relief to the users by fixing the glitch of exposed passwords. This flaw disclosed password of many users to approximately 20,000 employees. However, none of them accessed the password and the accounts.
This issue came into notice back in January 2019 during a security review. The officials said this problem has mainly affected the users of Facebook Lite. People living in lower connectivity areas usually use the Lite version for easier and quick access.
Breaking the ice, Security Researcher Brian Krebs found the malfunction of the security system which exposed passwords of around 600 million users. Facebook sources told Krebs that the problem occurred due to the creation of application which logged and stored the password without encryption.
As a reply to Mr Krebs, Facebook engineer Scott Renfro said that internal inspection didn’t found any misuse of information by any employee.
Recalling the past, this is not for the first that user’s data was exposed due to security flaws. Let’s see if this problem takes place in the near future or not.
